about the author...
A few tidbits about me. I live in Portland, Oregon with my rambunctious little girl and a neurotic Australian Shepherd mix. I am a self-employed software developer (i.e., between jobs). I would prefer to make my living writing fiction rather than code, but programming isn't so bad.
I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, then worked for a year in the wine business. When I could no longer tolerate the hangovers, I moved to Chicago to pursue a career in advertising. I never did land that coveted Assistant Account Executive position, but I spent more than a year as a temp while honing my skills as a party girl. I ended up handling the finances of a small ad agency, so I guess I got my money's worth out of that business degree.
In 1997 I traveled to Guatemala and Costa Rica. I spent time in a Spanish language immersion program, volunteered for a wildlife refuge and for a conservation league, and dazzled everyone I met with how fluent I was not. Upon returning to Chicago, I found my calling as a database developer, and a year later I moved to Portland. Working from home with little self discipline inevitably lead me to indulge my real passion: writing. I've completed two screenplays and one novel (Soft Landing), and I'm working on my second novel.
