Mama Lit

Review by Mary Bordner Tanck:

Soft Landing is a really great read! Hermanson takes a serious (topic) and shows an unusual knack for wit while still being sensitive to the subject matter... Hermanson's characters are very human and very believable. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a nice down-home story.

Comments:

— I agree this is a great book; I could not stop reading. ~Theresa

— I am so glad that this book is finally getting some word out there... it is so compelling, I could not put it down. The writer has such a strong sense of dialogue and character, I felt myself somewhat sad when it was over as I wanted to continue to peer into these characters' lives. I highly recommend getting this book, and then writing your name in it as you will be lending it out to many other mamas! ~Justine

— The author has woven this story beautifully. There are some interesting twists in the drama and also some understated humor scattered throughout. I cared about each of the characters, especially the protagonist, Maxine. A highly recommended read. ~Peggy

— I stayed up several late nights in a row because I was so engaged with this book. A great, fast read and surprisingly feel-good given some tough subject matter. Highly recommended! ~Robin

— I agree, a GRADE A fantastic read! I was hooked within the first 5 pages. I found myself shouting, cheering, and choking up all in the same chapter. This was a quick read (which I LOVE... 2 kids + 2 businesses = little time). I highly recommend this book. Laurel Hermanson is a witty, clever and down to earth writer and I look forward to her next book. ~Jennifer

MMMMM  Compelling read, June 25, 2009

By Robin Maloney (Portland, OR)

I picked this book up after getting a strong recommendation from a friend, but started reading it with trepidation, since it addresses sexual abuse of a minor. Much to my surprise and delight, while this serious subject is a focal point of the book, the author creates a cast of very compelling characters that make it a lovely, lighthearted read. It is witty, and her characters are easy to relate to-- normal fallible people that you might be friends with. I stayed up one too many late nights reading this book, and didn't want it to end. Very enjoyable- I highly recommend this book!
